Poster A2

December 2020 poster

The artist Jiajia Zhang presented the 2020 monthly poster (*1981 Hefei, China) created a series of photographs for the art association that shows different things (pencils, shoes, dolls or displays). The series was photographed at places in the economic cycle in banks, shops or Brockenhausen. Zhang's photographic works often depict things that represent a place and its larger and sometimes invisible functional apparatus (economic, typological or representative model structures). The repetitive depiction of these things and places creates a reference space that also reflects the artist's circulation in the world. It is a critical questioning of these spaces – real and virtual – and our actions in them.

The St.Gallen Art Association has been promoting, collecting and communicating visual art since 1827. He was a key force behind the founding of the St.Gallen Art Museum in the 19th century and promotes fine art in the city and the St.Gallen region. With their annual contributions, its members directly support its activities and thus enable the preservation and development of a cultural identity.

With the monthly posters, the St.Gallen Art Association supports young regional artists by making their work visible in public spaces. Every year artists are commissioned to develop a subject for each of the twelve months of the year. The result will be printed on posters in A2 format and shown on poster columns in the St.Gallen city area on a monthly rotating basis.
